| Stunning British actress who began modeling for commercials when she was 10 and was voted "Britain's Most Beautiful Teenager" a few years later. Soon after, she appeared in films like School for Unclaimed Girls (1969), Countess Dracula (1970), Pope Joan (1972), and Scalawag (1973), but the blossoming beauty caught the attention of American audiences as Georgina in the acclaimed TV series "Upstairs, Downstairs." That show's success put her in hot demand as a romantic-and often, simply decorative-lead in The Pink Panther Strikes Again (1976), A Little Night Music (1977), The Betsy (1978), The Great Train Robbery, Hanover Street (both 1979), Rough Cut (1980), and Sphinx (1981). Since then, Down has appeared mostly in TV movies and miniseries like "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" and "North and South," and its sequels, with only occasional films like Nomads (1986) and Death Wish V (1994) in between. |
