| Actress Kyra Sedgwick was only 16 when she made her professional acting debut on the TV soap Another World. The New York native and USC graduate went on to etch out a three-pronged career on the stage, screen, and television, earning early plaudits for her work in the latter medium. Two of her more acclaimed TV projects were Lemon Sky, a 1987 drama that had the added advantage of introducing her to her future husband Kevin Bacon, who was cast as her half-brother, and 1992's Miss Rose White, which starred Sedgwick as a Jewish career woman in search of her past. Sedgwick first gained notice on the big screen with her role as Ron Kovic's high school girlfriend in Oliver Stone's Born on the Fourth of July (1989), and the following year, she made a memorable impact as the daughter of the pathologically repressed Mr. and Mrs. Bridge. She moved into more adult territory with her starring role in Cameron Crowe's Singles (1992), playing a young Seattle professional negotiating the pleasures and pitfalls of love with Campbell Scott. Unfortunately, her subsequent appearances during the 1990s tended to be erratic. Sedgwick popped up as one of four awkward "guardian angels" in Heart and Souls (1993), made a literal impact as the crotch-kicking sister of infidelity victim Julia Roberts in Something to Talk About (1995), and appeared with husband Bacon in the Alcatraz drama Murder in the First (1995). Bacon also directed Sedgwick in the mental illness drama Losing Chase (1996), in which she played the caretaker of a severely depressed woman (Helen Mirren). In 2000, Sedgwick could be seen as a young Jewish woman who brings her lesbian lover (Julianna Margulies) home for Thanksgiving in Gurinder Chadha's ensemble-driven What's Cookin'.
